Preface

Parveen Shahnaz is writing poems for the last 20 years, and so far, she has published four books of poems. This list includes Touching the Seawater, The Desolate Cloud, Water Collected on Folded Palms and The Ironclad Family of Stars. The titles of her books are quite poetic, and they resonate rhythmic sound affirming Shahnaz is predominantly a poet by heart. Her creative works, I am sure, have already drawn attention of the circle of poets and poetry-lovers in the country. In the present bilingual book, she has presented selected poems both in Bangla and their translation in English. This will bring laurels for her from home and abroad. I have found most of Shahnaz’s poems are one page in length and not overloaded with theory or concepts. These are more emotional in tone and written from heart, not head. These features perfectly match with what Buddhadeb Basu had prescribed as ideal forms of poetry to the poets of his time. As I read, I find love is the central theme of Shahnaz’s poetry. The lines are spontaneous flow of emotion. This course is both dynamic and vibrant. I am sure the true readers of poetry will surely feel the touch of her writings and discover their inner beauty. I am confident that this book would find a good readership among the connoisseurs of poetry. I wish the writing career of Parveen Shahnaz fly from good to great!

Introduction

I know Parveen Shahnaz from her engagement with a social organization with which I am also associated as its Chief Advisor. I used to know that she writes poetry and has published several books of poems. Occasionally she presented one or two of her books to me for reading. Her association with a socially committed organization is a manifestation of her collective awareness. As I browsed through the pages of her poetry books, I have found the same social commitment and awareness in her writings. The lines are simple and rhythmic. The words are so unrestrained that a reader won’t have to struggle with the dictionary to find their meanings. As a professor of mass communication and journalism, I used to teach subjects that deals with human lives, their struggle and thirst for freedom. Literature depicts all these aspects of human lives in subtle way. Poetry, we know, is the smost articulate form of literature where a poet uses metaphors, similes, images etc., to express deeper feelings and realizations. I have found these features in Shahnaz’s poetry. The canvas of Parveen Shahnaz contains many colours. Her subjects range from love for beloved to love for humanity, from nature to relationship, from rural settings to urban complexities. Many of her poems have inner cadence and splendor. I wish her more sucess!

Md Ejaj Ahamed is a bilingual poet, writer, journalist, teacher, an editor and peace ambassador. He was born on 26 February 1990 in a remote village called Mahendrapur in Aurangabad of Murshidabad district, West Bengal, India. His parents are Md Samsuddin Biswas and Matiyara Bibi. His Educational Qualifications are English Honours, triple MA, B.Ed, D. El. Ed. He has been teaching for ten years.  From an early age, he was able to cope with his family's financial difficulties and continue study, writing.  During his college days, his Bengali-English poems and essays were published in the college magazine 'Ayon' every year.  His Bengali-English poetry, essays have been published in various magazines, journals and joint poetry books. His research article 'Discovery and the Golden Peak of Improvement' has been published in an International Journal Called RJELAL and another research article 'Exploring New Trends and Innovations in English Language and Literature' has been published in an international standard book. His published Bengali books are 'Swopno Tori'(Dream Boat), Bangla Sahitya o cinemaya Goyenda Charitra (Detective Characters in Bengali Literature and Cinema), 'Maner pandulipi'(Manuscript of Mind), 'Hrid-Canvas'(Heart-Canvas) and 'Antarer Kabyakatha'(The Poetry of Heart). He is the chief editor of Swapner Vela Sahitya patrika (The Raft of Dreams Literary Magazine), a member of the editorial board of 'International Sahitya Subarna', the North Bengal editor of 'The Quadri Times' newspaper and finance secretary of 'Joy Bangla Sahitya Parisad' of Bangladesh. He has edited a collection of Bengali poems by poets from India and Bangladesh, 'Kabitar Akash'(The Sky of Poetry) and 'Kabitar Aranya'(The Forest of Poetry), 'Kabitar Sagar' (The Sea of Poetry). He also works as a journalist for various newspapers. He has gotten many honours and honorary doctorates from various organisations of many countries.

He has received 'Ambassador of peace' of WLFPH, 'Global Ambassador' of International Literacy Study Group, Member of Global Ambassadors of Sustainability and Certified Sustainability Officer (Dubai), Member of International Peace Ambassadors Academy (Egypt), Ambassador- 'Iqra  Foundation' (Jerusalem), Member of Peace of 'International Academy for Peace and Human Rights' (Egypt), Member- 'Feather and Extender Humanity Academy' Europe and Turkey Branch, Member- Global Friends Club, Ambassador for World Peace- Foundation Maria  Gladys.  He is also Moderator-London Poets Club (England).

Having many international publications for our works is a luxury. I feel blessed for receiving many invitations to write poems from different corners of the world which enabled my literary works traveled carrying messages and missions. I may say The Rhythm of Energy, my eleventh book, is a document of numerous poems that I have written for various international anthologies, literary journals, platforms and magazines in many countries of the whole continents. They were composed with various topics and themes, from domestic violence to ancient legends in anthropological territory.
Fulfilling many invitations to write with various themes, claimed not only energy and time, but also sufficient knowledge since the themes offered were so multifaceted. Thus, it requires me to endlessly learn a lot many things as a preparation and readiness to write with any theme. Once happened within a week I had to write 9 to 15 poems with different topics. Answering this challenge, no choices but keeping myself well-informed and fully-energized, to always be disciplined in reading, searching informations, compiling many datas and managing my poetical spirit alive. It is not always easy because composing poetry has its own criteria and claims unique condition to process and finalize the works. Poem is a combination of art and science, but mostly art. So, what the poet needs most in processing and finalizing their poems is imagination and sense of aesthetics in language besides knowledge.
From approximately 150 English poems I have written during one and a half years, fifty five poems of them are presented in this book, in which sixty percent of those chosen ones, were not derived from my personal experiences, but coming from the themes in invitations offered. That’s the innermost layer of a challenge in the writing process, how we adapt ourselves to capture, comprehend, interpret and communicate the whole inputs we gathered to turn them into a poetic composition and convey the messages to the readers.
I greatly value this virtual and digital age for the easiness in pursuing datas and needed infos effectively which saving much energy and time. I just stayed in my bedroom accompanied by mobile and laptop before my book shelves, and flying here and there in “VVIP class” with a full plate of amenities. I feel so blessed and grateful for my packed schedule, finalizing 4 books, including The Rhythm of Energy, during the critical condition in my country regarding Covid-19 pandemic since last year (March 2020). Office time and all meetings has moved into home to stay safe and prevent the spread. Blessings in disguise, the restrictions help me to be more productive in my writing works.
It is essential for finalizing my books in this temporary critical season soon for maximizing the time as a stay-at-home person. I hope when later the world be fully recovered I can be focused and concentrated on a number of upcoming projects with some institutions and communities. But still, because of my creative zeal and passion is writing, compiling datas and infos for another book (s) will be always on top priority. 

INTRODUCTION

Niloy Rafiq belongs to the second generation of poets, a voice attuned to the pulse of nature and the intimacy of landscape. His verse carries the fragrance of love and romanticism, the urgency of contemporary consciousness, and the tremor of inner rebellion. Burnished by the fire of anguish, his poetry is enriched by the awareness of existence itself. At times, it rises to embody the grandeur of national identity. The spellbinding cadence of folk idiom in his work draws the reader irresistibly into its orbit.

In theme and imagery, Niloy Rafiq’s poetry is born of modern inspiration. Alongside the cultivation of pure emotion, his verse is infused with political awareness and conviction. He is a poet rooted in the soil, grounded in the heritage of his people.

Through his poetry, Niloy Rafiq has given voice to the bleeding present, to the pain and defiance of his own society, and to the gulf between expectation and fulfillment. At moments, he consecrates the spirit of the nation itself. His poetry bears the profound resonance of consciousness. Eternal emotions and feelings, the projection of insight into rhythm, flow effortlessly with the passage of time. He seeks to establish within his verse a sense of indivisible wholeness, a vision of totality. In his inner being, the poet has deeply apprehended the timeless patterns of life. His vibrant consciousness touches the weary and wounded soul with a healing breath of peace.

Biodata (ASOKE KUMAR MITRA), KOLKATA, INDIA

Born 1950, from Kolkata, India, studied at Hindu school and St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata.

He is a retired journalist and editor of “CALCUTTA CANVAS” and “INDUS CHRONICLE”. He is a bilingual poet. He has contributed to various anthologies published in India and abroad. His poems are translated into Hindi, Punjabi, Assamese, Italian, French, German, Polish, Persian, Serbian, Arabic, Hebrew, Malay, Mandarin, Romanian, Spanish, Azerbaijani, Russian, Uzbek, Kirghiz, Greek, Swedish, Norwegian, Chinese, Catalan and Albanian.

“SAVAGE WIND” is his first poetry book, a bilingual edition, translated into Spanish by Mexican poet Josep Juarez. This has a separate edition published by Altaspera Publishing &Literary Agency INC, in Canada and distributed by LULU, IE under separate ISBN. The Italian version of “SAVAGE WIND” is  published from Italy  with Italian translation by poet Elisa Mascia, Italy. Arabic edition is published from Jordan translated by poet Nizar Sartawi into Arabic.

 “SONG OF PEBBLES” is his second book, a bilingual edition, translated into French by Marjorie  Meetoo  from Mauritius. Published from Kolkata, India.

A tribute
To write a bilingual book of poetry is a blessed achievement I am really honoured to take part in the presentation of the book (random reflections). this book is a great task, an auspicious contribution to the world of poetry. 105 micro poems written by the Indian poetess Jyotirmaya Thakur and translated by me Faleh Alkhazraji , are arranged in a bilingual collection of short, translated poems. I feel it is a new considerable attempt to write bilingual book of poetry because it will be easy for the receiver to understand the meaning through two means of languages, cultures, schools and through styles of thinking and living. The receiver will have a great multitude of understanding. I am grateful to the poetess Jyotirmaya Thakur for giving me ultimate trust and conferring me the honour of Arabic translation of her micropoems . she is cute, accurate and erudite poetess. thanks for her constant support and collaboration.
