DR JAY SANKAR BASU is a globally published poet, critic and reviewer on a wide spectrum of subjects ranging from Critical Discourses on fiction and film studies to poetry in bilingual media of English and Bengali.  

He authors his poems in the penname of JAY BASU, and he is currently working as Associate Professor of ELT [English Language Teaching] in Centre for Language, Translation and Cultural Studies, under the aegis of the School of Humanities of a premier [NAAC-accredited ‘A’ Grade] State University. 

His childhood was spent in a part of Kolkata where a serene ambience of nature still prevailed unmolested by urban intrusion. His memory of howling jackals impressed his childhood consciousness so much so that even in his mellowing years he longs for them with a heartthrob. In his poems images of howling jackals, hooting owls, nocturnal birds, misty morning, descending gloom of evening or midnight starry sky and mystic glimpses are preponderant, undercut by frequent forays into the visceral actualities of  life, alongside a gentle play of satire and humor on anything under the sun.

He did his Ph. D on the avant garde modernist English short story. He is an author, published from abroad and India, of Critical Studies on Fiction and Film Studies. He published altogether 44 ISBN-marked books of poetry and criticism. He was successively conferred the 74th & 75th Indian Independence Day Award of Honour by Gujarat Sahitya Academy (Govt. of Gujarat, India).

Lone Stars Magazine of Texas, USA, Literara Vocea of Romania, Pentasi B of China, Global Poetry Library, Global Poetry Fashion, and Serbian Anthology of World Poets, 2021,  are a few among others to have featured Jay Basu as a World Poet, along with his biography and poems. He was also awarded the honour of a poet of excellence by WEWU, Hyderabad. Jay Basu is a contributor to several journals/anthologies such as Mirror’s Literary Criticism, The Gorkha Times, Cascades: The Teachers’ Treasure Trove, Anthology of Confluence Sensibility, A Rendezvous of Words, and Serbian Anthology of Word Poets. Dr Jay Basu co-authored a book of poetry, titled The Luminous Halo, with Dr Jernail S Aanand, celebrated Indian author writing in English.

His college and university days were turbulent on the crest of Naxalite movements during the late seventies. His tilt to left-wing politics petered out as a sequel to his disenchantment with its deviation from the Marxist ideals. Quietly severing his fledgling tryst with left politics he refocussed his interest on academic studies and creative writing on entering the educational precincts as a young lecturer in English at the age of 23.

Dr Jay Basu has been teaching the English Language and Literature at the highest rungs of  academic hierarchy over more than the last three decades. At present, he is working as Associate Professor of ELT at CLTCS (Centre for Language, Translation and Cultural Studies) under the aegis of School of Humanities, NSOU, a UGC NAAC - accredited ‘A’ Grade premier State Open University. There is no better passport to travel nowadays than with a book of poems. Through it, we get to know people and it allows us to travel all over the planet, regardless of any border. This is the case of Ormus, Fahredin Shehu's book.

Every time and always, I recall the mossy ruins of my distant past where the soul wandered.
On the aquamarine velvet notebook, a heavy Pen writes harshly with blood instead of ink and straight letters for the curved world.
His pages contain in their verses a universal message that allows us to know it in all its magnitude. These poems that you are going to read contain time, memory, nature and love, integrated into a pure and meaningful language.

Ormus refers to the land of the poet, a land that bleeds and flourishes with a strong hopeful breath, not only for her but for a world that blurs in torment.

Preface This poetry collection is a fractal of my augmented soul; therefore, I wanted to entangle my readers in its vibration to elevate them to another state of consciousness. The book is a representation of the power of the kind of word that even the most sophisticated artificial intelligence cannot reproduce. Nothing new was intended to showcase despite the reflection of vision, dream, and the untold truth that each and every one of us possesses as a hidden gem deep within ourselves.
Ormus is an extract of gold, the monoatomic particles of gold that I used in my meditations to enhance higher states of consciousness. In this case as an author, I wanted to endow this Ormus for the Soul to those who through Love attain the Divine.
There are two, so to say, train tracks that made possible the birth of this artistic book which emancipated to the level of Theurgy and objective art (something to experience in hush, serenity, solitude while being united with the universal reality of synchronicity and quantum reality). The first one was inspired by the following quote from Arthur Schonberg: “If it is art, it is not for all, and if it is for all, it is not art.” As for the second path, it

was shaped by my desire to create as genuine a book of poetry as I have not written before, and as something that cannot be reproduced in the future.
In Ormus, the reader has the opportunity to touch and tackle the most subtle partiture of the infrasonic music of the soul the frequencies of which shall vibrate from the outer to the kernel of Hesh (“Hesh” stands for androgynous, a joint male and female entity that is just like the Soul and Light in themselves).
All I wish here is to thank all whom I have encountered either virtually or in person, by the vibration of whom the invisible tapestry of creation took a visible form. My thanks also go to those who contributed either with their reviews, words of dedication, art work, editing and publishing in order for the reader to have a piece of our souls. Finally, the poet takes us on an inner, humanistic and existential journey, from which we return full, satisfied and with images to remember. But with a certain mandate, we too must do something. Hopefully in poetry.

Biodata ASOKE KUMAR MITRA, KOLKATA, INDIA

Born 1950, from Kolkata, India, studied at Hindu school and St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata.

He is a retired journalist and editor of “CALCUTTA CANVAS” and “INDUS CHRONICLE”. He is a bilingual poet. He has contributed to various anthologies published in India and abroad. His poems are translated into Hindi, Punjabi, Assamese, Italian, French, German, Polish, Persian, Serbian, Arabic, Hebrew, Malay, Mandarin, Romanian, Spanish, Azerbaijani, Russian, Uzbek, Kirghiz, Greek, Swedish, Norwegian, Chinese, Catalan and Albanian.

“SAVAGE WIND” is his first poetry book, a bilingual edition, translated into Spanish by Mexican poet Josep Juarez. This has a separate edition published by Altaspera Publishing &Literary Agency INC, in Canada and distributed by LULU, IE under separate ISBN. The Italian version of “SAVAGE WIND” is  published from Italy  with Italian translation by poet Elisa Mascia, Italy. Arabic edition is published from Jordan translated by poet Nizar Sartawi into Arabic.
